1830s fashion – What’s hot, what’s not

Hot – BREADTH is the word!  The bigger the shoulder, the bigger the hip, the better!

Not – A la Mameluke Sleeves.  Don’t hide those pretty, delicate hands with this extra long sleeves!

Hot – Ruffs!  Take a hint from our feathered friends and adorn your neck with this hot number (literally, hot).

Not – Muffs.  No need to look like you’re carrying around a dead animal!

Hot – Ferronieres.  You may not be the queen of England, but you can sure look like her with this pretty head piece.

Not – Empire dresses.  This is sooooo 1825.  Why hide a pregnancy that isn’t there?

Hot – Brocade.  Keep warm on those cold winter days in this sturdy fabric.

Not – Muslin.  Why deal with this cheap, high maintenance fabric?

Hot – Curls, loops, knots, and braids.  Your hair can be a work of art!

Not – Wigs.  Enough said.
